Description:

The Childcare Teacher-Preschool is responsible for the day-to-day care of children ages 2 –5 years in the classroom, planning creative, educational, fun activities for them as well as addresses their basic needs.  Regular hours are M & F 2:30-6:30 pm, T 1-9 pm and W & TH 2-9 pm. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

·         Develops and implements weekly lesson plans for the afternoon preschoolers.

·    Provides nurturing and comfort to children.

·         Creates and implements weekly lesson plans.

·         Ensures that parents sign their children in and out of childcare using the form provided.

·         Tracks inventory of preschool age appropriate toys and educational materials and informs the Director when supplies are low.

·         Assists in the sorting, storage and distribution of children’s program donations.

·         Provides care for children ages 0-5 in the evening when there are adult shelter activities.

·         Participates in relationship based practice and reflective supervision.

·         Attends and participates in weekly staff meeting and training(s) appropriate to this position.

·         Enroll in the Maryland State Child Care Credentialing Program, complete 12 hours of continuing education a year following the state guidelines and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.

·         Ensures cleanliness, proper arrangement, organization and stimulation in indoor/outdoor learning environments.

·         Takes attendance daily.


Skills:

Experience/Requirements:

·         Must be 20 years old or older. 

·         Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or related major preferred; 90-hour Early Childhood Education certificate required.

·         Must have one (1) year experience working in the childcare field and be knowledgeable about the impact of intimate partner violence and trauma on child development, behavior and on families.

·         Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

·         Ability to respond quickly to children who may be in danger of getting hurt, in the classroom and on the playground.
