PACKAGING ENGINEER/SENIOR BUYER

Position overview:

The Harris Products Group, a Lincoln Electric company headquartered in Mason, Ohio, is the global leader in the design and manufacture of gas welding and cutting equipment, industrial and specialty gas regulation equipment, gas distribution systems, brazing and soldering alloys and welding consumables.  We are looking for a Packaging Engineer/Senior Buyer to lead the development, design, validation and project management of packaging projects.  These projects include new packaging designs, material conversions, cost reductions, packaging equipment procurement lifecycle and quality and regulatory compliance.  You will develop and lead sourcing strategies and supplier negotiations for all packaging used for retail, distribution, and industrial markets for brazing and welding consumables, equipment and accessories.  Using Six Sigma methodologies, you will identify, assess, and implement new opportunities and projects through frequent interaction with marketing, manufacturing facilities, R&D, and outside suppliers.  Additionally, you will interface with equipment and packaging component suppliers to ensure technical needs of the manufacturing facilities are being met. Qualified candidates must be self-directed with an exemplary work ethic and possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field plus a minimum of three years’ experience in packaging engineering; prefer experience to be in retail or related channel.

  • Experience with automated packaging equipment, packaging materials/components, and testing packaging integrity.

  • Experience using SolidWorks and relevant 2D and 3D CAD programs.

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and TQM methodologies as well as of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for classification and labeling of chemicals.

  • Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and MS Office programs.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with strong business acumen and proven ability to manage projects of varying scope.

  • Practical problem solving skills with ability to analyze and interpret data to recommend process and design changes.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Five years of packaging engineering experience.

  • Experience with SAP and working knowledge of Adobe Suite.  

  • Experience with international packaging processes and companies.
