Description:

The Communications Manager supports the Director of Communications in marketing and communications efforts by working collaboratively across the organization. The Communications department supports Barrie School, Barrie Camp, and Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies. This part-time position will report to the Director of Communications and will be a member of the Advancement team, which includes the Director of Development, Director of Admission, and outside creative consultant. 

Summary of Responsibilities
The Communications Manager is a communications generalist and content creator responsible for supporting creation of written and visual content for Barrie School’s digital platforms and publications; print editorial support; content improvement of the school’s website (Finalsite); and maintenance of the school’s photo management library (Vidigami). This position requires expertise in written and visual communications with the ability to foster strong relationships school-wide, ensuring engaging and current content aligned with Barrie School’s brand and in support of the school’s strategic goals.

Specific Responsibilities

Day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to telling Barrie School’s story through written and visual content across digital platforms and publications, including social media, Barrie School’s website, and the school’s weekly e-newsletter, which highlights key student and employee news, special school announcements, events, and more.

  • Serve as Barrie School’s “reporter-at-large,” by photographing, and soliciting and editing stories from across campus for use in newsletters, social media, and on the website.

  • Maintain the team’s social media calendar; developing social media campaigns in partnership with the Director. 

  • Maintain Advancement project statuses and deadlines; report out at weekly meetings.

  • Print signage and kiosks on a regular basis on the Epson large format printer.

  • Order and organize large format printer paper and ink.

  • Order school letterhead, envelopes, name tags, nameplates and business cards prior to August faculty week, and as needed.

  • Coordinate outsourced print jobs for vinyl banners, admission materials, etc.

  • Support Parent Teacher Organization events and communications needs as assigned

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned to support the work of the advancement department.

  • Provide marketing and communication support to the school community as assigned by the Director of Communications


Skills:

Qualifications

  • An appreciation for the history, mission and culture of Barrie School.

  • Minimum of three or more years of marketing, communications or public relations experience with a strong grasp of communications industry best practices and emerging trends.

  • Experience at an independent school is highly preferred.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to multi-task and execute multiple projects simultaneously with effective teamwork and attention to detail.

  • Self-starter with an ability to identify and drive tasks to timely completion.

  • Collaborative and collegial orientation, eager and able to engage a diverse client base, and ability to build strong professional relationships.

  • Outstanding diplomacy, tact, judgment, patience, persistence, flexibility and positive attitude are required to support contact with faculty and staff, parents, trustees, and volunteers.

  • Outstanding ability to think quickly and logically, troubleshoot and solve problems innovatively, respecting confidentiality at all times.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite for Education, Trello, Content Management Systems, Canva, and the ability to learn database applications and other software quickly.
