The Operations Assistant is an essential staff position that is part of the Shelter Operations team primarily responsible for the day to day cleanliness of an 84 bed residential facility serving individuals and families that have experienced intimate partner and sexual violence. Operations Assistants maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment, including efficiently preparing rooms for occupancy, keeping the building at a high level of cleanliness and order, identifying and reporting safety hazards, and accepting and distributing donated commodities in combination with the Donations Assistant. Shelter Residents are traumatized both by the intimate partner violence they experienced, and the sudden experience of homelessness. Families may also have unrelated trauma experiences from their lives. The Operations Assistant must be comfortable engaging traumatized people in a sensitive manner and must be comfortable working in a Voluntary Services program model. This position is 100% on site in Baltimore City. Here are the available shifts:
- Monday-Friday 10am-6pm 40 hours
- Saturday-Tuesday; 12am - 8am 32 hours
- Wednesday-Sunday 12am-8am 40 hours
Primary Responsibilities:
· Conducts scheduled cleaning of common areas of shelter following a housekeeping routine designed to ensure that a high standard of cleanliness is maintained daily. The routine will include, but is not limited to, sanitizing bathrooms, vacuuming, mopping floors, removing trash, cleaning walls, dusting, and cleaning windows and glass doors.
· Removes and disposes of abandoned items left in shelter bedrooms and apartments in preparation for new resident occupancy.
· Launders linen as necessary to meet “turnover” demands.
· Meets with new residents to distribute material goods such as cleaning supplies and detergent, in accordance with shelter procedure. Serves as a back up to the Donations Assistant.
· Conducts room inspection of bedrooms and apartments to ensure minimum hygiene and safety standards of cleanliness is met. Provides residents with cleaning supplies, and assists residents in learning cleaning practices when concerns are noted. Initiates a meeting with Residential Manager and/or Lead Resident Advocate if more assistance and support is needed.
· Prepares pre-packaged toiletry and linen supplies to be distributed to new residents at intake
· Receives, sorts and distributes donated commodities. Organizes and maintains donations storage areas.
· Reports the need for maintenance repairs and safety hazards.
· Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. Works with Manager on supply orders.
· Assists with Kitchenette, dining hall, and clean up as needed.
· Completes daily documentation of operations activities through agency system.
· Monitors building and responds to mechanical emergencies to manage immediate crisis and involve appropriate staff as necessary.
· Assists volunteers who perform activities connected to daily operations of the facility.
· Participates in regularly scheduled one on one supervision and team meetings as scheduled.
· Other duties as assigned.
