The Staff Accountant performs and assists with accounting, financial and grant operations to support and advance the financial position and good standing of the Agency. The position engages in the daily operations of the accounting department, assuring accurate and timely reporting following generally accepted accounting principles and assures grant conditions compliance. This includes timely preparation of general ledger entries, account reconciliation; grant revenues and related billings, cash receipts processing, assistance with of accounts payable, petty cash, routine grant and tax compliance, and draft of grant reports and modifications. This role will participate in the monthly close process and reconciliation of accounts.

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or business field, or experience to substitute. Non-Profit accounting and grant experience preferred. Must have high ethical standards, and be flexible, highly motivated and able to work independently.  Must be able to understand intimate partner violence and how it affects the client population and have ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.  A credit history and background check is required.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Activities and assignments completed efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Performs certain day-to-day accounting functions, including but not limited to, grants, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and petty cash.
  • Prepares post-award general ledger and supporting spreadsheet schedules for a wide range of government, foundation and corporate grants in accordance with individual grant guidelines. Works with team to identify budget spend-down issues. Creates new tracking spreadsheets to support grant specific compliance reporting needs; maintains current knowledge of funding sources and funding compliance issues.
  • Acts as grantor liaison to resolve accounting reporting and compliance issues. Attends grantor audit meetings and compiles requested audit information.
  • Assists with portions of the various financial period closing processes, including bank account reconciliations, assistance with balance sheet reconciliations, and assistance with social enterprise financial activities.
  • Assures compliance with monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual grantor deadlines, filing requirements, and financial reporting guidelines.
  • Maintains awareness of programmatic and staffing changes and incorporates these in funding projections.
  • Supports the implementation of new systems processes (where necessary) in support of agency initiatives.
  • Participates in annual audit engagement of agency and related entities and grant specific financial audits; assures audit schedules maintained throughout the fiscal year and at fiscal year-end where applicable.
  • Seeks ways to improve and promote quality, demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, and adheres to safety, security, controls and confidentiality requirements.
