Position Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for engaging the community in the ongoing activities of the House of Ruth Maryland. This position is responsible for providing management of the volunteer program, with a special emphasis on volunteer recruitment, training, retention and recognition. Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of Development Department volunteers. Provides assistance on Adopt A Family program. This individual will stay current on all agency volunteer positions, needs and requests and will work with staff to identify volunteer opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage volunteer program including recruiting individual volunteers and groups, conducting monthly orientations, coordinating with staff to ensure volunteers are trained, personally overseeing group volunteer experiences, communicating with volunteers through email, maintaining volunteer service hours and surveys. Organize volunteer recognition and retention activities.
- Coordinate the collection of data on volunteer service – including number of hours volunteered and the number of volunteers from across the agency.
- Optimize written materials for volunteers, including website content, printed materials, and job descriptions.
- Work to effectively staff Speaker’s Bureau with use of volunteers as appropriate.
- Enhance opportunities for corporate or community organizations to get involved, partnering with others in Development Department to coordinate corporate volunteering, workplace giving, individual giving and training.
- Supervise Development Department volunteers, including providing assignments, evaluation of work and other support as needed to regular Development volunteers and special project volunteers.
- Create agency volunteer job descriptions. Coordinate with agency staff to determine agency’s needs for volunteer services. Serve as a liaison between staff and volunteers.
- Assist with coordination and running of Adopt A Family program.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of House of Ruth programs, activities, focus areas, strategic directions and financial situation to inform website information, volunteer projects/needs, and social media postings.
- Assist with special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
