At Envestnet MoneyGuide, we believe everyone needs and deserves a quality financial plan. Our design team is growing as we create and improve products that serve our mission. We are currently looking for an experienced UX professional to join our team with the expectation of joining us at our Powhatan, VA location when our offices reopen.
If you’re the one we are looking for, you are a problem solver. You have a knack for finding solutions based upon logical interface patterns and a deep empathy for the people using the software you help create. You know it takes collaboration, humility, and hard work to design mature and evolving products. You’re comfortable collaborating with analysts, designers, developers, and other stakeholders to turn new product ideas into elegant experiences and refine the UX of existing products.
What Success Looks Like:
You will become a critical part of our team creating products that help finance professionals and general consumers. You will work closely with the Lead UX Designer to provide relevant, intuitive, and valuable experiences to a wide range of target audiences. The work is challenging and requires critical thinking, creativity, humility, patience, and an affinity for both psychology and technology.
To do this, you’ll need to:
- Get comfortable with our software and technology stack. Our products serve both financial advisors and investors, so you’ll have to get acclimated with the ins and out of our industry-leading product.
- Solve design problems from both a user-centric and systematic perspective. Software and systems are complicated. You know user experience is not specific to the screen the user is currently on, rather a user’s experience is shaped by the entire system.
- Tell engaging stories through digital experiences. You will translate ideas into stories that make sense to target audiences while achieving business objectives.
- Shepherd your work from discovery to release. You will collaborate with stakeholders, developers, and designers to refine your work, but handing off your designs to the development team is not the end of the line. You will own the product until it is released.
- Learn our design system and UI patterns. If you’re not already, you will become an expert in Figma. You will leverage our design system to rapidly create prototypes. These prototypes will not only provide a great user experience, but they will help our developers have a great experience implementing your designs.
- Clearly communicate the styling, user flows, and the impact of your designs on other parts of the system. You’ll Iterate as feedback comes in and the apps evolve.
- Determine which deliverable is right for the problem at hand. You know when to move from post-it notes to digital, from wireframes to designs. You know it’s all about having the right conversations with the right people at the right time.
- Be comfortable writing a first pass at UI copy which is then refined with the help of your team in design reviews. There’s no lorem ipsum here.
- Speak the language of software development. If you’re also comfortable diving into HTML, CSS, or JavaScript to help implement your design work, that’s a plus, but it’s not a requirement.
Finally, success as a designer at Envestnet MoneyGuide hinges upon the ability to approach design as holistic problem solving for both user and business goals. You’ll listen to ideas, questions, and critiques from teammates with grace and patience. That said, you know your stuff and can eloquently and logically explain design decisions. Most importantly, you see this type of exchange as critical to the success of yourself and our products. Sharing ideas and being open to the brilliance of others is how we arrive at the best solutions.
