Description:

Position Title:  Manufacturing Engineer/Planner/Estimator

 

Reports To:   Engineering Manager             Manager Once Removed(MOR): President

 

Important Working Relationships

President, - Sales Manager, - General Shop Foreman, - Fellow Employees, - Customers

 

Principal Responsibility

Responsible to manage and execute the quotation process.  Manage customer relationships from the RFQ thru the confirming quotation stage, and perform post quote follow up  to solicit orders.  Review customer RFQ's,  contract requirements and specifications, reviews new parts and designs to create efficient machining, grinding and EDM processes.  Documents in E2 Estimating package.   Also, plans/designs/estimates tooling, fixturing special cutting tools and inspection requirements.   Ensures upcoming job folders are ready for production, including establishing materials requirement and outside services as well as acquiring associated pricing and may order these items. Plans gauging and inspection using inspection sheets.  The engineer performs a technical review of completed orders and updates E2 and engineering documentation.

 

Essential Duties:

 

  1. I am paid to Think!
  2. Manages customer RFQs and executes quotation process thru final pricing for management approval.
  3. Reviews customer specifications/documentation.
  4.  Develops and writes estimating process plans to produce highly complex parts produced in up to 5 Axis milling and multi axis mill turns and swiss up to 13 axes.
  5.  Estimate cycle times by reviewing customer drawing and/or KVI quotation.
  6. Prepare RFQ’s for current material costs, subcontracting costs and finishing costs as required.
  7. Responsible for reviewing customer orders, including revision levels, and repeat jobs through system, including making necessary routing changes by reviewing previously marked up routers.  Make changes to router regarding engineering revisions.
  8. Communicate with customer on drawing clarifications and order discrepancies.
  9. Identify and coordinate tooling, inspection and special gauging requirements, whether in house or from customer.  Includes preparing inspection plans from drawing requirements.
  10. Prepare CAD drawings for machining processes, outside services as needed and custom fixtures and cutting tools.
  11. Assist order processor in all aspects of job when required.
  12. Purchase materials, tooling and outside services for jobs as required.
  13. Performs a technical review of completed orders and updates E2 and engineering documentation, including Actual vs. Estimate.
  14. Implements/utilizes estimating software
  15. Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner within company rules and regulations.

 

Secondary Duties

  1. May plan and executes engineering review meetings of new customer requirements.
  2. May open Job folders and associated documentation.
  3. May perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, inspection of parts, programming CNC’s, and running machines as may be necessary.

 

Physical Demands

 Ability to operate computer for long periods of time.  Must be highly attentive to detail.

 

Relocation

KVI will consider relocation for the proper candidate. This job can also be a remote employment position.


Skills:

Education/Skill/Experience Required:   

1.  Minimum High school diploma.

2.  Experience in job estimating and planning for minimum 5 Years

3.  Strong CNC machining and/or CNC programming background for minimum 10 years..

         - Swiss machining, CNC Mill Turn and 4 & 5 Axis machining and programming experience (MasterCAM or GibbsCAM)

4.  Manufacturing engineering experience Min 5 years.

5.  Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills.

6.  Inspection Plan engineering.

7.  Clear understanding of lights out machining concepts to execute design and implementation of production plans.

8.  Computer literacy in; word, excel, and outlook and AutoCAD, and or Solidworks.

9.  Strong machining problem solving skills.

10. Strong understanding of Geometric Tolerancing to provide guidance to customers.

11.  Supports Sales by developing creative solutions to address customer challenges

12.  Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
