Summary: Coordinates disability and mental health services for EHS and HS children. Offers mental health activities and facilitates mental health services for staff. Designs and implements strategies and activities to improve Kindergarten readiness in Preschool Community. Advises Manager of Education about related changes and updates for Kindergarten experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Participates in program planning, reporting, results, monitoring and evaluation.
2. Represents the program in the community, and develops partnerships within the agency and with programs/agencies within the community.
3. Organizes and schedules delivery of parent education materials related to Kindergarten readiness.
4. Ensures parents receive timely notification of Kindergarten round up and important Kindergarten registration requirements such as: round up dates and activities, immunizations, and important paperwork needed.
5. Ensures social-emotional curricular resources are current and available to staff and supports the implementation.
6. Publicizes public school Kindergarten teachers’ expectations of their incoming students by ensuring parents and staff are informed of Kindergarten School Readiness expectations.
7. Assures that classrooms and playgrounds are adequately furnished and supplied for Special Needs accommodations and adaptations listed in IEPs.
8. Assists in assigning students to classrooms
9. Assures mentoring and coordinating support staff in regard to IEP goals and accommodations by generating goals and monitoring use of Goal Binder.
10. Attends case conferences and ensures delivery of services for children with disabilities as needed.
11. Oversees the developmental and social/emotional screening process and ensures compliance with Head Start timelines.
12. Assists families and children with developing transition plans for children with IEP/IFSPs including their entry and departure from the program.
13. Organizes and facilitates transition activities for parents and children transitioning into Kindergarten.
14. Educates parents by providing information about community resources related to Special Needs & Early Intervention resources.
15. Serves as primary internal contact resource for Head Start and Early Start staff regarding Early Intervention strategies, procedures, and information.
16. Emphasizes literacy efforts as essential for Kindergarten readiness.
17. Ensures adequate training for staff before children with IEP/IFSPs become enrolled and ongoing as needed
18. Coordinates Head Start staff attendance at case conferences as needed.
19. Receives and determines appropriate action to Early Intervention referrals.
20. Involves parents in the education activities of the program: Assures that staff and parents are familiar with and assist in developing accommodations and adaptations to the curriculum.
21. Assists parents in increasing their knowledge, understanding, skills, and experience in child growth and development.
22. Works with the Policy Council to review policies and written plans and participate in the annual self-assessment process.
23. Assists in devising Early Head Start, Head Start, and Kindergarten Transition plans and facilitates the implementation of the plans.
24. Assists in implementation and determination of School Readiness Goals for the program.
25. Assists with recruitment activities and events as assigned. 26. Assists with related special projects or other tasks as required.
