Description:

This position assists and works under the direction of the Associate Director of Facilities or his designee in order to: (1) maintain the physical plant and buildings and grounds up keep, (2) increase customer service to staff and clients regarding building related maintenance issues. Maintain a safe, neat and clean environment at House of Ruth Md. Locations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Independently perform basic maintenance task as assigned, for building maintenance and repairs as directed by the Associate Director of Facilities. Including, but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting and appliance repair.
  • Independently conduct grounds maintenance. Including, but not limited to, lawn cutting and trimming, snow removal, tree pruning, flower and shrub area maintenance and general trash and debris clean up.
  • Work in support capacity and partnership with custodial, contractual, volunteer(s), and other maintenance staff personnel in order to complete assigned tasked.
  • Maintain and utilize an array of power tools, hand tools and grounds equipment.
  • Utilize internet to research parts, maintenance instructions and information needed to maintain facilities.
  • Provide back up to other operations staff in their absence as assigned.
  • Carry working cell phone or pager to allow for 24-hr emergency response.
  • Function as ‘essential staff’ during weather and other emergencies.
  • Assist in donation receiving, procurement and processing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills:

Experience/Requirements:

 

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience in building maintenance and grounds work.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work off of ladders.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to respond to emergency facility issues at any and all House of Ruth Md. locations and the ability to work weekends and holidays if needed.
  • Ability to understand intimate partner violence and how it affects the client population.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and maintain client confidentiality.
  • Basic computer skills to access internet/email etc. preferred.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
