The Community Relations Coordinator (CRC) will be responsible for engaging the community in the ongoing activities of the House of Ruth Maryland. This position is responsible for providing day to day management of the volunteer program, including a special emphasis on recruitment, training, retention and recognition; provide day-to-day supervision of Development Department volunteers and manage the agency’s yearly Adopt A Family program. The CRC will be an agency representative for external and third party events. The CRC will also serve as a host for public visits to all HRM facilities. This individual will stay current on all agency volunteer positions, needs and requests. The CRC will also engage in community outreach activities through speaking engagements to broaden the awareness of intimate partner violence and the House of Ruth Maryland.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage volunteer program including recruiting volunteers and volunteer groups, conducting monthly orientations, coordinating with staff to ensure volunteers are being trained, communicating with volunteers through email, maintaining volunteer service hours and surveys. Organizes volunteer recognition and retention activities. Creates opportunities for corporate or community organizations to get involved.
- Supervise Development Department volunteers, including providing assignments, evaluation of work and other support as needed to regular Development volunteers and special project volunteers.
- Create agency volunteer job descriptions. Coordinate with agency staff to determine agency’s needs for volunteer services. Serve as a liaison between staff and volunteers.
- Manage the agency’s Adopt A Family program, during which over 350 families are adopted each year. Match family and individual wish lists with donors in the community, and coordinate delivery of items to various programs across the state.
- Evaluate and coordinate agency participation in various third party events including fundraisers, training, exhibit fairs, etc.
- Represent the House of Ruth Maryland at external events, such as trainings, speaking engagements, tabling events and other external programming as appropriate.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of House of Ruth programs, activities, focus areas, strategic directions and financial situation to inform website information, volunteer projects/needs, and social media postings.
- Attend bi-weekly senior staff meetings to better understand new and current project needs.
- Review domestic violence literature for information that is useful in best educating the public on the need for agency programs and services.
- Assist with special events.
