Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Co-Op or Intern
Reports To: Process Engineer
FLSA Status: Hourly Nonexempt
Summary of the Position
Evaluate, develop and troubleshoot mechanical and industrial projects in the Gainesville facility to maximize efficiency and eliminate downtime. Apply the principles of Lean Manufacturing in a "hands-on" position, participating in the implementation of a complete Lean culture change in a US manufacturing facility.
Key Deliverables
· Ensure current electronics are capable of producing quality parts

- Projects completed in a timely manner
- Effectivity and efficiency goals obtained for the machining cells
- Root cause of problematic issues identified and solutions recommended, acquired and implemented
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Safety - 5%
Works safely and supports safety within their team across the organization – as required.
Participates in safety training and demonstrates a high regard for safety at all times.
Wears Personal Protective Equipment as required by safety regulations.
Robotic and Electronic equipment - 95%
Evaluates robotic capabilities in manufacturing operations and proposes improvements using Six Sigma tools.
Evaluates and proposes new automation ideas to reduce lead time and increase productivity.
Creates project plans to implement proposed changes, manages execution and measures results to expectations.
Develops and writes justification plans for new acquisitions of robotic and electronic capital expenditures.
Creates Standard Work for tasks in facility.
Validates and computes cost savings for process improvements.
Establishes control plans for sustaining improvements.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Required – Mechanical Engineering coursework completed in preparation for Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited engineering college or university.
Preferred – Six Sigma training, Solidworks experience, MS Office proficiency including Excel and Power-point

Mathematical Skills - Must be able to perform basic mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Other Qualities - Must have a calm demeanor when interacting with customers. Must be
capable of communicating technical issues in writing as well as orally.
