About the Position
Barrie's instructional technology infrastructure and resources include a fully networked campus with broad Wi-Fi access. Teachers and students use desktops and laptop PCs, and iPads. Additionally, Barrie has a Chromebook 1:1 environment for upper elementary and middle school students. Commonly used software include Google Apps, Haiku, Kaymbu, and other cloud-based tools.

The position is responsible for incorporating technology into teaching and learning both as a tool and as a topic. He or she will accomplish this through direct instruction with students, professional development opportunities with teachers, and collaborative work with teachers in the classroom. While the position will involve support and collaboration with teachers in both our Montessori and Prep programs.

The person hired will be part of a team that works with the Future of Information Alliance, a collaborative initiative that includes partners such as the University of Maryland, National Geographic, Newseum, and the National Park Service.

Responsibilities
The candidate for this position will be responsible for supporting student and teacher use of classroom technology and will have an important voice in the ongoing expansion of our technology resources and programs. This position will be part of defining the role of technology in Barrie’s Montessori program and attending or hosting relevant conferences in the area.

The qualified applicant should be an enthusiastic user of technology, excited to learn new tools and to share his or her passions with others. He or she should have a strong background with the application of technology in the classroom and school as well as the communication and organizational skills to help students and teachers creatively and effectively expand their use of technology. The ideal candidate will approach the use of technology in teaching and learning from the perspective of progressive pedagogy.

Teaching or equivalent experience with technology is required. Experience with the use of 3-D printers is a plus. Personal characteristics essential to this position include a strong work ethic and can-do attitude, a commitment to collaboration, and a dedication to empowering children and faculty with a variety of technical capabilities to grow in their skills and understanding.

Educational/License Requirements

Any combination equivalent to:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and preferred graduate studies.

  • Five years of management experience in the area of data storage, filtering, and reporting including communications products and other related data, project management of enterprise-wide software installation, support of assessment, reporting, and commitment products and data warehousing.

  • Experience with schools and instructional programs
