School Based Youth Worker

Position Summary:

The School Based Youth Worker collaborates with Federated Church's Heads Up Club for students at Briarwood. The School Based Youth Worker will tutor specifically identified at risk students in the Lafayette School Corporation, mainly in Miami Elementary, Sunnyside Intermediate, and Tecumseh Junior High School after school at Briarwood. The School Based Youth Worker will collaborate with school, youth and parents to ensure academic success.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement communication systems linking the program site, participating organizations, and schools
  • Participate in program recruitment and enrollment by assisting the Executive Director in identifying children targeted for the project and referring them to the Heads Up Club
  • Conduct meetings with school staff (principals, Teachers, Counselors, etc) of identified students, youth workers, student and/or parents and Heads Up Staff
  • Secure parental permission for sharing data
  • Implement system and procedures to comply with grant requirements including reporting and evaluation
  • Connect families with community resources
  • Meet with families in their natural environment
  • Review syllabus
  • Establish expectations
  • Train volunteers


Must be 19.5 Years of Age or older



  • 1-2 Years Previous Experience preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in human services, sociology, or other related field
